Resilience: An Exhibition

Coral Reefs

2022 has started off slowly, and so I was very excited when visual artist, Samantha Redfern, invited me to be part of her collective exhibition titled Resilience. As soon as I saw the word, “resilience”, I immediately thought of corals and their resilience to climate change. Coral reefs are crucial to the survival of the underwater ecosystems and coastal communities, and I posted about this in my earlier post about corals here. Scientists are studying how coral reefs can be resilient in the face of climate change, and understanding these resilience factors are allowing researchers to improve coral reef management.

I think it’s good that we are working towards to better understanding corals, but at the same time, I do think we need to tackle climate change head on, rather than adapt to it (which seems to be what is happening at the moment!)

Resilience : An Exhibition (23 - 27 March)

For this exhibition, I have decided to showcase my coral pieces to show case the imminent danger that the corals face. This includes:

a) Bowls of Fragility, which looks at how man’s actions and choices influences the coral reefs

b) Ocean - corals displayed as specimens; would this be the only way to enjoy the coral reefs?

c) Hope, Revival, two new pieces which capture the spawning of the coral reefs

The pictures below give a little sneak peek, but it’s best to come down and visit us if you’re in Singapore!
