Where to get Sewing Supplies in Singapore
Have you ever started a sewing project and then half-way realise that you’ve forgotten to buy some interfacing, or you’ve run out of your favourite thread? It’s definitely happened to me when I was working on a free motion embroidery art piece Or maybe you want to start a project but not too sure where to begin when purchasing all the sewing supplies, fabrics and thread for your art. I’ve come up with a list where I love to get all my haberdashery for my textile art and repair work.
Spotlight, Plaza Singapura
Although slightly more expensive than the other stores on this list, Spotlight has everything from fabric to zippers, and buttons to thread under one roof. Spotlight usually has great discounts so look out for those too. This is my favourite place to get DMC embroidery threads and yarn, as well as Gutermann thread, good quality threads that won’t jam my sewing machine. They are perfect for my free motion embroidery projects!
Become their member so that you get notified of their in-store sales too. They sometimes will do a 40% off (if you’re lucky!)
Location: Level 5, 68 Orchard Road, Plaza Singapura (Dhoby Ghaut MRT)
Open daily: 10am - 10pm
Also available online https://www.spotlightstores.com/sg
Ghim Soon
Amongst the sewing machines, accessories and parts, this shop in the east has a a good selection of Madeira embroidery threads for the sewing machine, including glow in the dark threads and of different weights! They also offer soluble fabrics of different thicknesses too. I have not tried these for my free motion embroidery work, but I have heard good things about them. Update - I recently tried the polyneon threads for my coral works and they work a treat. Unfortunately, Ghim Soon are not bringing the rayon threads into Singapore anymore (only in sets),
Location: 129 Geylang East Ave 2, #01-104, Singapore 380129
Open: Mon - Sat, 9am - 5pm

Lye Nai Shiong
Excellent selection of haberdashery items, including threads for day-to-day sewing, elastic bands (various widths and buy what you need!), sewing needles including sewing machine needles, and zippers. They have an excellent range of interfacing (black and white) and stabilisers of various thicknesses too. As of 2023, they offer a range of Gutermann threads, including sew-all, sulky and rayon.

Brighton Accessories House
This is located a short distance away from Lye Nai Siong. It offers a range of buttons, lace and other trimmings as well as sewing implements. It also sells a limited range of fabrics. This is my go to place for buttons and also the embroidery hoop. You can also find sewing machine footers too!
If you’re buying items in bulk, you can check with the auntie for their prices - they sometimes give a discount.

I love this little gem. 2Quilters was founded by Aimee and Yvette. 2 passionate quilters and certified fabricholics. I get my batting, Olympus sashiko threads and special Aurifil embroidery threads from them. If you love to quilt, you will find a wide range of fabrics too!

Yarning Hearts
Yarn addict, Alexandria, runs this lovely craft studio that specialises in natural fibers from all over the world. I was instantly drawn to her variety of linen, silk, cotton and even paper yarn from Japan. These can be used to create a variety of textures with the sewing machine - but remember to use the appropriate needle and change the tension!
Available online at https://www.yarningheartsg.com/ and by appointment at her studio.

Ban Soon is known for selling sewing machines, but they have a selection of sewing notions including sewing machine needles, dissolvable fabric, interfacing to meet various needs, and sewing machine footers.

Daiso
This is for last minute haberdashery buys, and you don’t have time to rush down into town to visit the main sewing stores in Singapore. Daiso has needles, sewing thread, interfacing and even buttons! As the quality is not as good, I would only buy this if the others aren’t stocked up either, or you just need a teeny amount.
