Embroidery Workshop at Uniqlo

A Zen Spot for Embroidery

It has been close to half a year since Singapore opened up to the world. I cannot believe how crowded the streets and malls are. I was at the Uniqlo Singapore, Orchard Central to give a workshop, and boy, did the mall feel like 人山人海 (ren shan ren hai) - which literally translates to "people mountain people sea", ie A LOT OF PEOPLE! I don’t think I have ever experienced so many people in a long time. It was rather claustrophobic, so I was relieved that the workshop space in Uniqlo was a cosy and quiet corner of the store.

It was the perfect spot to relax, have a zen moment. We had 3 sessions of hand stitching as part of the Masterpiece series. Due to the time constraints, I focused on something small yet tangible for the participants. I wanted them to have a sense of satisfaction at the end of the workshop, as well as enjoy the process. The participants made a wearable piece of artwork comprising satin and darning stitches.
