Giveaway! Who Wants Some Black Soap?

Did you know that Green Drinks Singapore launched Organic October this month?

Organic October
"It is all about celebrating healthy living and encouraging Singapore residents to reduce their toxic load by choosing organic products for personal well-being and health of the planet."

So, to support Organic October, I'm collaborating with The DIY Secrets with an Akoma Black Soap giveaway (woo hoo!) and it's open to everyone, even if you live overseas and the postman can get there!

What, black soap?

When we think of soap, we think of cleanliness and we don't associate soap with being black in colour. But that's what got me intrigued - does black soap really clean well? My friend at The DIY Secrets gave me a few samples of the Akoma line to try out - the Black Soap Bar, Black Soap Liquid Original, Black Soap Liquid Peppermint and Black Soap Liquid Lemongrass - and yes, they are all black!

PS. Remember I had tried out The DIY Secrets soapnuts too? Check out the post here

Akoma soaps are traditionally handmade and not mass produced. The soaps are free from artificial dyes, fragrances, charcoal, synthetic chemicals and preservatives. Certified Organic and Fairtrade, Akoma uses mainly Organic Virgin Coconut Oil and that gives the soap its rich cleansing lather and Organic Raw Shea Butter that lends its creamy lather and conditioning properties. Mixing these 2 beautiful oils and butter with traditional cocoa pod ash solution forms this natural cleansing soap.

Black Soap Bar
Okay, it does not look like your conventional bar of soap, but it has no fragrance and is very creamy. As the soap dissolves quite readily in water, I cut a small piece and place it in a soap dish with the remaining bar stored in a cool place. I have oily skin and this is not drying at all. In fact, there is a slight moisturising feeling afterwards.

Liquid Black Soap

The Liquid Black Soap is the concentrated liquid version of the soap bar. You can use it concentrated in household cleaning or undiluted for personal care. I have tried it when hand washing my Luna Pads and they came out nice and clean. I also use it as a handwash using a foam pump bottle. The DIY Secrets gave me a bottle to try out the liquid soap  - it came with instructions on how to dilute the soap, which was very handy!

Akoma Liquid Black Soaps come in Original, Lemon grass and Peppermint.
